ABSTRACT
Diabetic osteopathy has an intermittent activity and sometimes it may result (n severe lesions and amputation. Early diagnosis is important. in this study we compared the sensitively of scintigraphy and radiography in early diagnosis of osteopathy. 34 Type 1 (12 female and 22 male, with a mean age of 27.5±1.4 years) and 66 Type 2 (47 female and 19 male, with a mean age of 54.4±1.2 years) diabetic patients were included in this study. Ali patients were subjected to radiographic and three-phase bone scintigraphic study. Radiographic study revealed that 8 of 34 Type 1 (23.5%) and 20 of 66 Type 2 (30.3%) patients had osteopathy. However, scintigraphic study showed that 11 Type 1 (32.4%) and 33 Type 2 (50%) diabetic patients had osteopathy. Ali patients shown to have osteopathy by radiographic technique were also demonstrated to have these lesions by scintigraphic evaluation. Localization of the lesions was different in both techniques. it was concluded that scintigraphic imaging is more sensitive compared with direct radiologic examination in early diagnosis of osteopathy and we believe that in the light of these data about localization of osteopathy, special shoes and orthesis will help patients in the treatment of osteopathic feet.
